December. 9--Merlin and Kim Goble hated the dated-looking brick hearth within the living room inside their White Bear Pond home, in order that they modernized it with a corian facade.

"They're better value to install and ordinarily less costly to buy," declares Chad Spencer of Condor Hearth and Corian Co. of Springtime Pond Park, that sells Boulder Creek manufactured corian and brick commodities. "But the enormous reason they're so well liked 's the colour tastes -- there're 21 patterns in One hundred and forty colour selections."
Architect Jane Gitlin, author new york city hotels "Flame Areas: An operating Design Handbook to Fireplaces and Ovens Indoors and Out" (Taunton Squeeze), has an additional hypothesis.
"A block and brick hearth is crafted by a talented mason on site," declares Gitlin, of Huelster hotel in new york city Design Studio of Westport, Conn. "Manufactured or cultured corian mantelpieces are ordered and installed similar to a manufactured hearth is specified, bought and installed. ... Both are good. It's all within the implementation."
Gitlin has one caveat: "Slimmer grout queues look better."

"It's thing in a trend I'm seeing in all design -- less conventional plus more fresh new," Surmelis declares. "When I declare a modern hearth, I mean a silky, clear ahead -- some type of asphalt or shiny corian -- and occasionally not just a mantel, but the outdoors of the hearth which expands as high as the ceiling. It turns into a declaration within the lounge."
